Klingra - the band: new home for the Klingra album

The new band Klingra will adopt our latest album Klingra album and pass that baton on from here. What what what?? Read more about it below!

In 2019 we released our seventh album Klingra. An album with a lot of ties to the Faroe Islands. It was recorded up there in collaboration with many Faroese musicians: Teitur and Dánjal á Neystabø on pianos, Mikael Blak on bass, Ólavur Jákupsson singing the faroese lyrics (by the same aforementioned Dánjal). It also features Maggie Björklund on pedal steel guitar and Danish String Quartet on strings - altogether making Klingra a rather different experience than our previous records. Soundwise as well as stylistically.

New band: Klingra

In order to be able to tour with both the new and older material, we made a new band for the Klingra album and that “indie-classical” musical direction. This was more or less just dividing the big family into two parts, and take it from there. Since the OPUS album, the line-up kind of exploded and then with Klingra it took some new turns again. Two drummers, marimba, pedal steel, brass, strings, synths, etc…So to make everything a bit more simple, there’s now two bands instead of one. The mothership Afenginn is back to the classic line up of:

Rasmus Krøyer: clarinet, bass clarinet
Niels Skovmand: violin
Kim Rafael Nyberg: mandolin, guitar
Erik Olevik: bass, cello
Dánjal á Neystabø: piano
Ulrik Brohuus: drums, percussion

And Klingra takes a more classical/electronic/Faroese approach and consists of:

Dánjal á Neystabø: piano, vocals
Kim Rafael Nyberg: piano, keys, vocals
Heðin Ziska Davidsen: guitar, electronics, synths
Mikael Blak: bass, synths, electronics
Maggie Bjorklund: pedal steel guitar
Knut Finsrud: drums, percussion

There’s some really exciting stuff happening in the Klingra camp. We’ve recorded a new album that will be released in the beginning of next year and the first singles will start appearing this autumn. So at the moment a lot of energy is going in that direction. Head over to www.klingra.net our adventures there as well! If you appreciated the Klingra album, you will most likely enjoy this new one as well.

cheers, Kim
